God is Love
“Anyone who does
not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was
made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we
might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he
loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”– 1 John 4:8-10
An essential characteristic of God is that He is love. From the beginning has existed a Trinitarian love between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Love
is central to who God is. Creation is an outpouring of His divine love, and in
love, the Triune God created human beings in His image to be in relationship
with Him. The Bible makes it clear that we all have sinned, beginning with our
first ancestors. As a consequence, our relationship with God was broken. Yet, God is love and the greatest demonstration
of His love is “that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rm.
5:8).
